What is the best type of yoga for weight loss?

To lose weight you need to raise your heart rate on a regular basis. And yes that could mean if you are strictly practicing yoga for weight loss, you should be practicing a vigorous session of 90 minutes at least 3 times a week. I love a relaxing restore class, don’t get me wrong. Pairing the two practices could actually benefit the practitioner, but to shed pounds you should try one of the following:
Ashtanga Yoga: is a very vigorous style of practice and is commonly attributed to Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Ashtanga practitioners use a series of six postures that are connected with the breath. In Ashtanga Yoga, the sequences are called series and are not changed.
Vinyasa Yoga: is a derivative form of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga that employs the vinyasa technique of connecting postures, but does not strictly use the six series of postures as outlined by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Vinyasa Yoga connects movement and breath in a variety of interchangeable postures. What makes Vinyasa a little different from Ashtanga is that the “asanas” (yoga postures) can be arranged into different sequences that can meet the practitioner’s need or mood.
Power Yoga: is extremely popular, because it provides a very vigorous cardiovascular workout.
Hot Yoga: Vinyasa yoga done in a hot room ups the ante by guaranteeing you’ll sweat buckets. When we sweat are bodies release toxins, making this method very cleansing. Attend hot yoga classes on an empty stomach (do not eat at least 2 hours before). Always drink lots of water after to rehydrate the body.

Here’s another way of looking at weight loss and yoga. Over the last 27 years, I’ve always practiced much more subtle, meditative kinds of yoga. When I first started practicing I had lots of unhealthy eating (and drinking) habits that could potentially have caused weight gain and other chronic health issues as I aged. Through slow, mindful yoga practice, I got to know my body better, and the mindfulness I developed through subtle practice began to filter into the rest of my life. As I became more mindful overall, I could feel very acutely the results of healthy vs. unhealthy consumption. The unhealthy habits began to fall away because they just didn’t feel good–no struggle necessary!
